White Burgundy: The Ultimate French Chardonnay
A 95 Point White Burgundy that comes in at only $20 a bottle. If the rise of white Burgundy has taught us anything, it’s that once the word gets around, prices won’t be low for long. Stock up before the word gets out!
For winemakers, white Burgundy may just be the Helen of Troy of Chardonnay because nearly everyone who’s ever made Chardonnay has looked to the white wines of Bourgogne as gold standard. But as acclaim and demand rise, is there any affordable white Burgundy anymore? The answer is YES… if you know where to look.
Tasting Notes:
Aromas of fresh herbs, ripe lemons, crushed stones, lime zest. Ripe and balanced; thirst-quenching. Hand-harvested. Grapes are pressed full-cluster then fermented on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. Aged primarily in tank; some 10% of the wine is aged in older French oak barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Vineyards are located on hillsides some 900 feet above sea level or higher, not far from the appellation of Saint-Veran. Soils are a combination of chalk and clay. Soils here are mineral-rich, which contributes to the wine a lacy texture and tangy, sea-salty finish. This is value Chardonnay with a serious soul, a blanc that will seduce and astound those who claim allegiance to Côte de Beaune whites.
