2015 Gramercy Cellars Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Washington

JD94+ More Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (there’s 2% Petit Verdot) is slightly deeper colored and offers terrific notes of blackcurrants, charcoal, graphite, and lead pencil shavings. It’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and tannic on the palate, yet has beautiful potential. Hide bottles for 3-4 years and it will keep for two decades with no issues.
VIN93+ (made in large part from two blocks of 45+-year-old vines in Bacchus vineyard): Bright ruby-red. Black cherry, cassis, cocoa powder, red licorice and sexy Taransaud spices on the nose, along with a floral topnote. Dense, sappy and quite penetrating, with its dark fruit and African violet flavors conveying serious intensity and captivating sweetness. For all its concentration, this wine is brisk and not at all heavy. Finishes savory and very long, with a lingering blueberry flavor; substantial tongue-dusting tannins call for five more years of aging but even today they are nicely buffered and not at all dry. This wine is much less forthcoming today than the “regular” Cabernet Sauvignon. (14.5% alcohol)
Estate Notes: A monumental wine that’s drinking well now but will cellar for 20+ years. Cranberry, blackberry, cassis, red plum, red flowers, sage, tarragon. Gravel, pencil lead, saline, dust, mineral and forest floor. Savory with medium plus acid. Firm, fresh and focused with an unabashedly long finish. Full bodied with sweet vanilla. Complexity abounds. 
The 2015 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of about two thirds Bacchus Vineyard near Red Mountain and one third Octave Estate on the south side of Walla Walla. The wine was fermented for approximately 30 days with native yeasts. Aged in French oak for 22 months, 60% new. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
