2017 Owen Roe Red Blend Yakima Valley

JS93 This is a really focused red with a tightly tannined mouth feel of beautiful, ripe fruit with fine, integrated tannins. It’s so beautifully together and refined. A blend of 59% merlot, 22% cabernet sauvignon, 11% cabernet franc and 8% malbec. Drink or hold.
Estate Notes: The aromas from the 2017 Yakima Valley Red Wine capture beautiful notes of soft leather, baking spices and bright berry, followed by underlying hints of mint. Soft tannins dance on the tip of the tongue followed by a mouth-coating palate brimming with plum, black pepper and bright cherry. The Yakima Valley Red Wine is really a special wine to us, as it is the wine that brought Owen Roe to the Yakima Valley and continues to be a staple in our lineup. True to its name, this wine represents the best of these varietals from three Yakima Valley vineyards: Red Willow Vineyard, Union Gap Vineyard and DuBrul Vineyard.

Winemaker and co-founder David O’Reilly has crafted the Owen Roe wines since its inception, with a focus on producing wines of integrity and character. He is dedicated to sourcing fruit from only the highest quality vineyards in Yakima and Willamette Valley, and allows the expression of the grape define the end result.

David seeks to produce the most authentic expression of each varietal, using minimal handling and traditional techniques. Selection of vineyard sites along with hands on involvement throughout the growing season is some of the most important winemaking work David does. His picking decisions are always made in the vineyard. David believes it’s only by observing nature that we can harvest fruit at its delicate peak of aromatic development, while maintaining balanced pH and high acidity.

David’s wines consistently garner impressive accolades and scores from critics and publications such as Wine Spectator, Robert Parker and James Suckling.

Located in the southern center of Washington state, Yakima Valley is a high desert region and home to 11,000 acres of vineyards. With plenty of sunshine, availability of water, and diverse range of micro-climates, its an ideal location for winemakers and viticulturists to grow and craft exceptional wine.
