2017 TOR Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon

IWR98 The 2017 Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon is a brilliant follow up to lasts years sensational release which was our wine of the year. The Cabernet is sourced from the B, D and F blocks and fermented with 337 clones from Tor’s rows in the back of the vineyard and was harvested six days before the Atlas Fires. This gorgeous Cabernet opens to remarkably perfumed aromatics of fresh ripe blackberries, dark currants and even some black cherries, which are woven together with graphite, violets and a touch of sweet pipe tobacco and licorice. On the palate this full-bodied Cabernet displays remarkable depth with a gorgeous inner sweetness and outstanding concentration. Rich, seamless and beautifully polished, this continues to deliver loads of incredibly pure ripe dark fruits which envelop the palate and linger through the long opulent finish. Once again this is an absolute gem from Tor which is already showing outstanding today, yet will certainly have a tremendous future ahead.
WA97+ This comes from B, D and F blocks in Beckstoffer To Kalon, all of which sit atop ancient riverbeds. It was harvested on Friday October 6th, two days before the start of the Atlas Peak fire. Yields at To Kalon are strictly managed by the team at TOR to one cluster per shoot. The wine was matured in 100% Darnajou small French oak barrels for twenty months and bottled without fining or filtration. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Beckstoffer To Kalon simply sings of violets, red roses and licorice over a beautiful core of warm cassis, blueberry pie and plum preserves plus nuances of Morello cherries, menthol, chocolate box and cedar. Medium to full bodied, the palate is laden with juicy black fruits and compelling tension, framed by super-firm yet wonderfully ripe, velvety tannins and finishing long and perfumed. This wine is a true triumph in a challenging vintage – bravo! 393 cases were made.
