2016 Young Hagen Chardonnay Platt Vineyard Sonoma Coast

VIN92 The 2016 Chardonnay Platt Vineyard is an intriguing wine. Apricot, honeysuckle, butter, honey and wild flowers give the 2016 a decidedly rich, exotic feel that also comes through in the wine’s oily, viscous feel. A hint of reduction adds character without being overpowering. Although a bit eccentric, the 2016 is also undeniably beautiful and full of character.
Estate Notes: Lemon oil, hazelnuts and wet stone on the nose.  The entry on the palate is a menagerie of orange blossom, apricot, and green apple.  Mid-palate density brings a white chocolate quality that is cut with bright acidity.  Broad texturally and long, this wine returns to hints of lemon after 50-60 seconds. 152 cases produced from this incredible site above the town of Bodega. 
When opportunity arose to work with this special site, we had to pinch ourselves.  We have a tiny block of Wente clone on the western most hillside of the vineyard.  The clusters in 2016 were tiny, ripe, and loaded with bright acidity, translating to a wine with concentration, depth, incredible length, and laser focus.  We are very proud to have bottled what we first sought out to achieve.  This wine benefits now from a decant and continues to evolve for hours while open.  With this level of acidity, the wine will be long lived and will only become more complex. 110 cases.
