The Cartier family has run this farm in Provence since the 18th century. The estate was one of the first certified organic estates in Provence in the 1970s. A blend of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre. Cold macerated for a half-day; a rosé de saignée (free-run juice is “bled” off from macerating grapes). Unfined and unfiltered, with little added sulfur. Certified organic.
Soils are a mix of decomposed granite and limestone, very rocky and dry. Vineyards are surrounded by pine trees and the natural scrub (garrigue) of the south, perfuming the area with rosemary, thyme and lavender. The estate makes its own compost (from cow/sheep manure) and plows between vineyard rows; beneficial herbs are planted to control pests and moderate vine growth.
