WA94 The 2018 Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1998 and is usually made with a higher proportion of whole cluster than other wines in the Cobb portfolio, around 40% to 60% depending on vintage. Pale, vibrant ruby in color, its scents of ripe cranberries and blood orange peel are pure and intense, with tones of earth and Angostura bitters. The palate is grainy and fresh with full, spicy flavors and a long, layered finish. It’s a very pure, detailed expression of Emmaline Ann.
East Notes: This is one of my favorite parts of the Sonoma Coast. The vineyard sits perched on the southern hillside of Jonive Rd. just above the Freestone Valley. My mother Diane met the owners Wayne and Nancy Honnicutt back at a Sonoma County Grape Grower’s meeting in 2005. They hit it off and we were lucky to make our first single vineyard designate from the tiny 3-acre parcel in 2006. Planted in 1998, this site is surrounded by conifers that contribute to the organic build-up of the soil. Every year this vineyard produces our most elegant and feminine wine in the portfolio while amazingly displaying both red and dark fruits. Only 292 cases produced.
