WSI94+ JD93 A smoking value in Champagne, the NV Champagne Grand Cru Brut offers a clean, crisp, medium-bodied and acid-driven style that offers up a great perfume of pear and orchard fruits as well as salty citrus and toasted nuts. I love its precision and purity, but it still brings impressive depth of fruit as well.
TWI93 The NV Blanc de Blancs Brut Grand Cru, from Le Mesnil and with 4 g/L dosage, is a Champagne joint venture between US importer Kimberly Jones and Jean-Michel Turgy. Only 200 cases were made. It wafts from the glass with graceful notes of Golden Delicious apples, white peaches, marzipan, and sea spray with touches of coriander seed and baker’s yeast. The palate contributes spicy nuances to the apple and stone fruit flavors, featuring very fine bubbles and a racy finish.
Born a princess of Burgundy in 475. Clotilde would marry Clovis to become the first Queen of France.
This limited Blanc de Blancs cuvée from the chalk soil of Le Mesnil sur Oger is a celebration of her elegance, purity and grace. Quietly in the shadows of the larger houses of the Côte de Blancs, vine-growing Champagne artisans such as Jean-Michel Turgy are crafting character-rich, memorable wines based on the traditions and passions of past winemaking generations. Turgy sets himself apart with wines that do more than just reflect the Mesnil style—sumptuous, sensual and richly flavored—but faithfully capture the true character of the region’s unparalleled terroir, a personality often muted by mass-producing Champagne houses.
For more than 130 years, the Turgy family has grown and harvested Chardonnay grapes on these chalky soils, and because of this, they can certainly claim to be more than acquainted with the true soul and substance of Mesnil.
