2020 Domaine de Panisse ‘Le Mas’ Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe

WA91-94 A blend of 55% Grenache, 25% Syrah (aged in new wood), 15% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Mas is the Vacheron family’s first vintage at this newly acquired estate. Ripe cherries and thyme mark the nose, along with hints of rose petals, while the palate is full-bodied and silky, finishing plush and velvety, with a touch of oak. It should drink well on release and for at least a decade thereafter.
JD92 Coming from the northern portion of the appellation, the 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape shows the style of the team at Clos du Caillou (the estate is owned by the Vachon family) with its medium-bodied, silky, spicy, charming character. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a kiss of background oak, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish.
Estate Notes: From the younger generation of Clos du Caillou family. Aromas of ripe black cherries, licorice, wild rose, brown spices. Silky yet structured, with more black fruits and kirsch; ginger and white pepper finish. 60 to 100 year-old vines. Hand-harvested in small crates. Destemmed. Fermented on indigenous yeasts in cement tanks. Aged 80% in demi-muid and 20% in barrique, with 20% new oak (rest two-year old) for 14 months. Unfined and unfiltered.
