2015 Sean Thackrey ‘Andromeda’ Pinot Noir Devil’s Gulch Ranch Marin County

WSI96+ Stunning! Dreamlike Pinot! Still so expressive today. The nose starts with wild flowers, dried herbs and currants while hints of framboise and menthol waft through as well before a silky round palate of cherry, plum and strawberry fruit fills the mouth. The texture is smooth and the flavors are vivid with a backbone of lively acidity leaving a long finish that reveals mineral, lavender and fennel with just a kiss of subtle oak vanilla, smoke and mocha.

Jay James:
Purple-black center with a slight magenta rim. Forest floor and dried leaves with white mushroom on the nose, rounded out by black cherry and pomegranate. Firmly structured, more than expected from a 9yr old Pinot Noir, but that does not diminish its appeal one bit. A litle surprising for a Pinot Noir – black and blue fruits dominate the palate, yet they present with a refreshing lift from cranberry-esque red fruit flavors. A long, long finish with ample structure that shows development, and yet it’s clear that this wine has many more years to age.
