The Hot List: Heating Up with 95 Point Wines!

This week’s top wines were all rated at least 95 points by our panel of wine advisors and includes something for everyone; a Napa Cab, a Pinot from the Sonoma Coast (at a value you won’t believe!) and a Chardonnay exclusive to Wine Spectrum.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Le Pich has a deep ruby/purple color to the rim, sweet cassis and blackberry fruit, licorice, incense and well-disguised oak. The wine is medium to full-bodied, pure, ripe and impressive. It should age nicely for 10-15 years and it's a real sleeper of the vintage. Napa Valley

2013 Martinelli Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir- The 2013 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir has aromas of cherry cola, rhubarb, spiced plums and potpourri. On the palate, raspberries with cream and spicy blackberry jam flavors, with great balance and a lengthy finish. Primarily Blue Slide Ridge Vineyard fruit (declassified.) 90% Blue Slide Ridge, a tiny bit of Three Sisters, Wild Thyme (a new Martinelli single vineyard), and Home Ranch (a new Martinelli single vineyard.)

2013 La Pitchoune Pratt Vineyard Chardonnay- WSI 95 points! A pale yellow-green color introduces aromas of ripe pear, green apple and citrus notes that mingle with an underlying flint-laden, smoky component. Rich flavors of baked apple, lemon curd tartlet and roasted hazelnuts coalesce on a lingering finish, marked with mineral tension. Drinking well now, but expect this wine to drastically improve with another 6 to 12 months in the cellar. Designed to age, this wine should provide an extraordinary drinking experience for the next 5-8 years.
