Mary Marthis has been making award-winning wine for Kathryn Kennedy winery since 1981. For over 30 years Marty has been using California fruit, but still making them in a bordeaux style. All the while emphasizing the uniqueness of the grapes and vineyard site, and hand harvesting the grapes from low-yield vines and with minimal handling during the winemaking process. We are proud to have his Sauvignon Blanc, his newest LATERAL release, and his flag ship estate-grown Cabernet available for you. |

2011 Kathryn Kennedy ‘LATERAL’ Proprietary Red, Napa Valley – $39/bottle The 2011 vintage of LATERAL is a medium ruby color with dusty rose edges. It has inviting notes of tart cranberry, with excellent Cabernet Franc aromas of dried tobacco leaf combined with ripe Satsuma plums. Hints of cocoa powder, cream and caramel lie underneath. A very complex and compelling nose that follows through with a perfect entry. The mouthfeel is elegant and textured with a lean, feminine structure with a slight hint of oak and a compelling finish. |
2009 Kathryn Kennedy Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Estate’, Santa Cruz Mountains – $119/bottle Wine Spectrum Rated 95+: The Kathryn Kennedy estate vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines cover gentle slopes in Saratoga, California on the inland side of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Eight acres of vines were planted on their own roots by Kathryn in 1973. Excellent soil, a climate possessing just the right amount of marine influence, and personal attention combine to yield outstanding grapes. Each vintage is grown by hand and vinified in small lots followed by gentle barrel aging with 90% French oak. The 2007 (WSI 94+, $99/bottle) is also available. |
2012 Kathryn Kennedy Sauvignon Blanc – $26/bottle Wine Spectrum Rated 94: Our tiny winery has become known for its hand-made Bordeaux style wines. It seems appropriate for our only white wine to be a Sauvignon Blanc. We are very proud to designate this wine as “Made With Organic Grapes”. We crafted it by combining grapes from CCOF certified organic vineyards in Napa, Lake and Mendocino Counties. Each vineyard was selected for its cool climate location and exceptional viticultural care. In order to achieve a clean “non oaked” style, we carry out the fermentation in stainless steel at cool temperatures. This fresh young Sauvignon Blanc is sure to delivery a vibrant, exciting accompaniment to your warm weather cuisine. |
