JS94 Savory aromas of dried currants, black olives, dried leaves and violets, ink and dried oysters. Volcanic ash. It’s medium-to full-bodied with chewy tannins and plenty of tar and bitter black-tea notes. Nicely developed. Not so much fruit now, but will continue to age well. Drink or hold.
WS94 A sleek and racy red, with sculpted tannins providing fine definition for the tightly knit flavors of cherry and black raspberry, Mediterranean scrub, star anise and graphite. It’s full-bodied and dense, with the flavor range slowly unfurling in the glass and on the palate. Best from 2023 through 2035. 1,000 cases made, 100 cases imported.
Campagna’s premier estate and winner of a dozen Tre Bicchieri awards, the wines from Salvatore Molettieri are some of the best in Italy.
Molettieri burst onto the scene with the 1988 vintage and their sustainably farmed vineyards now extend for thirteen hectares in Montemarano, historically one of the two finest crus of the appellation.
Steve Tanzer says “Molettieri owns some of the best-located vineyards in Taurasi and his wines are textbook, uncompromising examples of what Aglianico can do here.” I
Aglianico is known throughout Southern Italy for its full flavored characteristics. An intense bouquet reveals ample amounts of ripe blackberries and spice notes with fine grained tannins surrounding a soft, velvety, lingering finish. The wine closes with 15% alcohol, and you definitely feel that power. That’s why they age the Vigna Cinque Querce in both barrique and large oak casks for almost four years!
A powerhouse, deeply expressive and amazing for the price.
