VIN93 The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a big step up from the 2013. Boisterous, rich and ample, the 2014 exudes raciness from start to finish. Dark red and purplish stone fruits, mocha, spice, chocolate and new French oak give the wine its luscious, exotic personality. The 2014 is a striking wine from Mending Wall.
WS93 Smooth, rich and polished, with a delightful core of spicy currant, blackberry, cedar and mocha, offering an underlying mix of gravelly earth and crushed rock. Long and sustained on the finish. Drink now through 2028.
Winemaker Notes: With this vintage we aimed for a wine that showed power, depth, grace and accessibility. In the glass, the wine displays a dark sanguine core with a ruby rim. The aromatic notes play lightly in the glass emanating notes of spiced plum, eucalyptus, crushed blueberries, and cocoa powder. The palate experience is where this wine really shines. Notes of kirsch liqueur, clove, cedar, fresh leather, and currant all exist harmoniously making a profile that is fruit focused with a complimentary spicy earth component. This wine is easy to enjoy today and will benefit from a few years in the cellar, ready for a special occasion in the future. Winemaker/proprietor – Thomas Brown
Since the late ’90’s Thomas Brown had been making a number of his clients wines at a somewhat dated facility on Howell Mountain. Around 2010, he and Frank Dotzler (Outpost) along with Mark Pulido and Donna Walker (Pulido-Walker) decided to look for land in Napa Valley to build a new, state of the art facility to replace what was becoming a cumbersome work environment. In 2013 they purchased 21 acres just north of Crystal Springs Road on the border between St. Helena and Calistoga, built what was to become the Mending Wall winery and opened in 2015. The name Mend- ing Wall is taken from the title of a Robert Frost poem that talks about being good neighbors and what it takes to maintain these relationships.
