JD92 Coming from a great site in the Santa Lucia Highlands, the 2016 Pinot Noir Soberanes Vineyard was mostly destemmed and spent ten months in 30% new French oak. Ruby colored with notes of smoked earth, cured meats, and spice box, it’s a savory, complex 2016 that shows more fruit and purity on the palate as well as medium to full body, sweet tannins, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming 5-7 years.
Estate Notes: Blackberry, huckleberry, allspice and clove are seamlessly integrated with silky smooth tannins to create a richly textured pinot noir. Supple and lovely, the ’16 Soberanes is so sexy, smooth on its entry that you’ll be unable to stop sipping. Spice rack, blue fruit and dark fruit meld into a seductive finish at once elegant and full. I’m seeing this beauty alongside venison grilled medium rare with a blueberry gastrique. This is a serious pinot, brooding and complex.
