JS94 A dense and layered Chianti Classico with lots of ripe fruit and creamy, round tannins. Full body. Complex and generous fruit. Really delicious now. Drink or hold.
Viticcio’s beginnings are rooted in Chianti Classico. This is the winery’s most historic wine, the first Viticcio label. Brilliant red in color, the pleasant aromas of red fruit, plums, and violets stand out against a background of tobacco, graphite, damp underbrush, and toasty oak. We make it with a blend of Sangiovese grapes selected from all of our vineyards, rounded out with a small addition of Merlot. First year of production was1965. Production is approx. 6500 cases per year. Grapes: 98% Sangiovese, 2% Merlot
We produce our wines from a combination of traditional and time-honored techniques, modern technology, and respect for the environment in every step of production. The results are unique wines characterized by elegance, freshness, and exceptional quality.
Viticcio’s estate property extends to 120 hectares of land in Chianti Classico and Maremma wine-making zones. About sixty hectares are organically cultivated with vineyards, mainly Sangiovese, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Vermentino.
Exalting the flavors and aromas of each variety is essential in obtaining wines that express the distinctive characteristics of the land. The grapes undergo a double selection in the vineyard during the harvest, and a further selection in the cellar on the sorting table, where all work is done entirely by hand and with the utmost attention.
The varieties are vinified separately at controlled temperatures, and the red grapes are always very gently crushed. We protect the racking from oxygen and utilize the latest enological technology to guide our process and hone the results of our final product. The choice of wood during aging is crucial, and we personally pick only the highest quality and best-made French oak barrels and tonneau.
