2016 Reynvaan Syrah Foothills Reserve Walla Walla

JD96 The 2016 Syrah Estate Foothills Reserve is a selection from the estate vineyard and was aged 11 months in neutral oak followed by 13 months in bottle. Deep purple-colored, with terrific notes of blackberries, smoked earth, graphite, cedarwood, and salted meats, it hits the palate with slightly more structure and tannin than the straight In The Hills Release, yet has terrific balance, no hard edges, and a great finish. It needs 2-3 years of bottle age, but this elegant, classic Syrah from Reynvaan will see its 15th birthday in fine form.
WS94 Impeccably polished and structured, with vivid raspberry and smoky pepper beef aromas that open to elegantly layered cherry, sweet anise and black olive flavors. Drink now through 2024. 425 cases made.
Estate Notes: Calling to mind truffle pasta with cracked black pepper, this concentrated Syrah is firm, focused and savory. Continuing with black olives, mushroom-beef broth, blackberries and cassis, the Foothills Reserve is mouth-coating, and rich, and at heart, resides somewhere between Hermitage and Saint Joseph. 100% Syrah aged 12 months in French oak, 25% new.
