2017 Querceto di Castellina ‘Sei’ Gran Selezione Chianti Classico DOCG

JS92 Lots of very ripe plum and rich, earthy notes on the nose, following through to a tight, medium-to full-bodied palate with a mix of tart, citrus-rind acidity and bright, spicy oak. Firm and a little chewy at the end. Needs a year or two to mellow, but it’s all there. Drink after 2021.
WA91 The Querceto di Castellina 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Sei (made with organic fruit) opens to a dark and sultry appearance with dark garnet and sepia highlights. Fruit from the hot vintage comes through, with a focus on dried plum and dark cherry. You also get some dark spice with toasted clove, tobacco and campfire ash.
Estate Notes: Deep ruby at its core, the wine flashes bright red with every swirl. The aromas that delicately arise recall the long golden afternoons of summer 2017 – of salty caper flowers and fig leaves flourishing from sun-baked walls, of ripening figs and morello cherries with their ripe sweetness tempered by savory herbs, nepitella and oregano.
Tannins are as firm as potter’s hands sculpting the wine into elegant shape. The finish is long and intricate, with the promise of further stories to tell. Enjoy our Sei, with time to spare, as this is a wine that must not be hurried. 100% Sangiovese. Aged 18 months French oak (500 lt.),12 months in the bottle.
