2018 Eleven Eleven Old Vine Zinfandel Moss Creek Vineyard Napa Valley

WSI93+ JD91 Moving to the reds, the 2018 Zinfandel Moss Creek reveals a solid purple/plum color as well as a classic Zinfandel nose of spiced red and blue fruits, brambly herbs, flowery incense, and candied orange zest. Nicely textured and medium to full-bodied, with plenty of up-front charm, drink this well-made Zinfandel over the coming 4-6 years.
Winemaker Notes: In the glass, ripe red plums and dates are accompanied by aromas of manoї, tobacco and star anise. The palate shines with an abundance of ripe, dark juicy fruits, vanilla, licorice and new leather. With just a touch of tannin for structure, the lengthy finish makes this versatile and intense wine the perfect choice for any kind of nature adventure. 
Old Vines never lie. The fruit from old vine zin is so different and unique to young plantings it is night and day. The saturation of cherry, dried plum and Zin spices is profound. Always an absolute joy to work with the old vines at Moss Creek Vineyard.
The benefit of making Zinfandel from older vines is they tend to produce fewer clusters, concentrating the flavors and preserving the acidity in the wine. That concentration is immediately evident in the dense and dark color of the wine. 
The combination of rich fruit and balanced acidity make this versatile wine a wonderful pairing for traditional plates like those served on a Thanksgiving table. For something more adventurous, try it with fried pork tonkatsu or lamb tagine with cous cous. For dessert, it will pair beautifully with blackberry tart. Tank fermentation and aging in neutral American Oak barrels. 100% Zinfandel. 396 cases produced.
