Black plums and ripe red cherries leap from the glass, along with warm spices – clove and nutmeg. On the palate, dark fruit is interwoven with notes of savory thyme and sandalwood. Beautifully evolved texture, well-integrated oak, and a finely structured finish add additional layers of complexity.
VINEYARDS:
Hills to the west and east of the Stags Leap District allow the passage of breezes from the bay into the interior of the region, making this small but renowned AVA slightly cooler at night than other area in the valley. The subtle climate variation and the appellation’s famously unique soils of old river sediments and heavy loamy clay, help provide for the low vigor vines and robust yet elegantly balanced wines of this District’s famed three square miles. Nearly all the fruit for this wine comes from the Schweizer Vineyard on the eastern side of Stags Leap.
