The 2018 Tierra Roja Cabernet Sauvignon is masterful. The aromatics leap from the glass, illuminating telltale notes of black currant, boysenberry and bramble that only the very best of Napa Valley can achieve to such a concerted level. Notes of baking spice, subtle earth and tobacco support the ample fruit.
On the palate, the wine reveals to be one of Linda Neal’s most powerful and intense vintages yet. The flavors carry more black currant and dark berries combined with oak driven characteristics of leather, dark coca powder and spice. The wine is rich and full bodied, highly concentrated in aromatics and flavors and incredibly long lasting with lingering vibrancy. This wine is a stunning 2018 bottling from the steepest hillsides of the Oakville AVA in Napa Valley ad without a doubt, will age on beautifully for decades more. 250 cases produced. 100% Cabernet sauvignon. Aged 22 months in new French Oak. 14.8% alcohol.
Tierra Roja is an exclusive, extremely limited production Cabernet Sauvignon made from grapes grown on a precious 4½ acre vineyard, located in Oakville, at the heart of the Napa Valley. Named for the distinct red earth that gives the fruit its unique flavors, Tierra Roja is hand-crafted by winemaker Jeff Ames who truly captures the essence of the soils in this powerful, yet elegant wine. Since the initial 2003 vintage, the wine has met rave reviews from wine professionals and consumers alike.
Owner, Linda Neal, has been growing grapes at this location since the late 1980s, though vineyards were planted here as far back as the 1920s. For over 20 years, Linda has been a vineyard manager, tending vines for other owners, but she now concentrates full time on her own vineyard and wine.
