WSI95 JS94 Aromas of dried violets, currants, sour cherries, porcini mushrooms, cocoa and lemon zest. It’s full-bodied with tight, fine-grained tannins framing chewy layers of spiced, dried and ripe fruit. This needs time to open and soften. More fruit-forward than the other four bottlings this year. Try after 2024.
WA93 I love the 2019 Grand Père Pinot Noir, which shows great freshness and a strong mineral sensation in the palate. It’s very Burgundian, with moderate alcohol and ripeness and silky tannins. 9,330 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2020.
VIN92 The 2019 Pinot Noir Grand Père from Villa Bastías, Uco Valley was fermented with 40% whole bunches in concrete. Ruby red with an orange ring, the measured nose begins with stem notes before opening up to refined red fruit aromas of sweet and sour cherry. Compact on the palate, the style is defined by fine tannins, integrated freshness and a slightly rugged feel while the region’s skeletal soils lend greater concentration.
