The 2019 Baron from Montagu is rich and inviting, full bodied with fine-grained and integrated tannins. Rich flavors of red and black currants, plums and mulberries create a luscious texture that culminates with a layered finish. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot. 22 Months French Oak aging (80% new). Sourced mostly from western Rutherford.
This is a delicious Cabernet, with fruit coming ALL from the George III vineyard (but it is not on the label and we cannot really say it!).
We tasted it and it is beautiful – rich enveloping flavors of juicy, luscious red currants and silky-smooth texture – at this price it is a SCREAMING deal!
Montagu was founded by Weston Eidson in 2012 and from the very beginning has been focused on extremely limited production, single vineyard wines. Learning from mentors Jason Moore and Russell Bevan, Montagu is committed to producing wines that are richly layered, complex and balanced.
Montagu Wines is a tribute to winemaker Weston Eidson’s great-grandfather John, the second Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and a British automotive pioneer. He was also the first person to drive an automobile to Parliament, gave the future Edward VII his first car ride, and his assistant served as the model for the iconic Rolls-Royce hood ornament known as the Spirit of Ecstasy.
