TWI94 The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon The Baron, with 2% Petit Verdot in the blend, is deep garnet-purple in color. It gallops out with bold notions of black cherries, boysenberry preserves, and blackcurrant jelly giving way to wafts of lavender and underbrush. The full-bodied palate delivers impactful black fruit preserves layers, with ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and perfumed.
Estate Notes: The 2021 Baron is a wonderfully rich and structured Cabernet Sauvignon from the Oakville AVA in the heart of the Napa Valley. This is the first vintage that the Montagu Baron has come from Oakville as I was offered some fruit from west Oakville and from a vineyard near Silverado Trail in the eastern valley floor. You will find this 2021 Baron is supple and balanced with dark fruit character.
Montagu was founded by Weston Eidson in 2012 and from the very beginning has been focused on extremely limited production, single vineyard wines. Learning from mentors Jason Moore and Russell Bevan, Montagu is committed to producing wines that are richly layered, complex and balanced.
Montagu Wines is a tribute to winemaker Weston Eidson’s great-grandfather John, the second Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and a British automotive pioneer. He was also the first person to drive an automobile to Parliament, gave the future Edward VII his first car ride, and his assistant served as the model for the iconic Rolls-Royce hood ornament known as the Spirit of Ecstasy.
